Came to discover that any input on the analog stick at all messed up the automatic sections of the game (*all* of them- you'd be killed for pressing anything at random), and my Dualshock 3's left analog stick was a little loose (a very slight input- not enough to move Sonic on foot, but when I tried playing another game, the character would tiptoe in one direction when my hands weren't on the controller).
